The float is themed about the 150 th Golden Spike Anniversary in 2019 and the Chinese who helped build the Central Pacific over the Sierra's Date: 12/30/18 19:20 Re: UP RR & the 2019 Rose Parade Author: PHall I saw a report on that float last night. Didn't see any UP logos. Just the Union Pacific on UP 119's tender.

“The 90-foot-long Chinese American Heritage Foundation’s float commemorates the iconic photograph taken at Promontory Point, Utah, which heralded the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869. The entry features more than 12,000 roses and 3,500 orchid florets (the later used to create the yucca blossoms). The locomotives have been recreated in glossy black seaweed, velvety black onion and gray poppy seed, blue sinuata statice blossoms and red cranberry seed.” Date: 12/30/18 20:20 Re: UP RR & the 2019 Rose Parade Author: wpjones Promontory Summit not Promontory Point

Date: 12/30/18 21:33 Re: UP RR & the 2019 Rose Parade Author: mundo I saw on TV, several TV heralds in flowers. And I believe "We can Handle" may be wrong the exact wording.
Date: 12/31/18 00:51 Re: UP RR & the 2019 Rose Parade Author: aronco On the float will be Pat Egan, a long-time Santa Fe general car foreman. I worked with him back in the mid-70's at Hobart Yard, Los Angeles. It turns out that Pat's distant relative ( a great great uncle?) oversaw track crews building the Central Pacific line through the Sierras and into Nevada. The builders of the float tracked Pat through Genealogy Research and asked him to be on the float..
At 83 years of age, Pat still works as an independent inspector of private cars such as TIOGA PASS. He is known to enjoy an occasional Irish whiskey, too. He has forgotten more than the present yard folks ever knew.
Ed Date: 12/31/18 10:46 Re: UP RR & the 2019 Rose Parade Author: tehachcond Also, there will be three UP men operating that float. Engineer John Strube will be driving, engineer Cal Fugiwara will be operating ther animation, and retired conductor Cary Westcott will be spotting for John. Just coincidence that the float has a UP theme with these three guys. They work together every year for the float builder. All three of them are good friends pf mine, and I've worked with them many times on the SP/UP.
Brian Black Castle Rock, CO Date: 12/31/18 10:52 Re: UP RR & the 2019 Rose Parade Author: Lackawanna484 This press release says the Chinese American Heritage Association will be working with Union Pacific to celebrate the 150th anniversary. And notes the presence of a diverse work force (former Confederate soldiers, African Americans, Chinese, Greeks, Irish, etc) in bringing the nation together.
