UP coal empty over the Smoky Hill

Rounding up some left-over fall color shots from this past season…

1. UP 6866 + siblings leading a coal empty across the Smoky Hill River over BNSF trackage at Enterprise, KS on the Strong City Sub.

Where did this train dump its coal and why does it use BNSF trackage rights?

Probably one of two places in Texas, Longhorn or somewhere near Houston. A train running east (rather than west as above) could end up in Chanute, KS as well, but those don’t usually return over this routing.

A way shorter route as opposed to running north out of Lost Springs to Herington, and then east to Topeka, and west to Salina. Also, one crew can take it from Wichita to Salina on this routing, as opposed to 3 on the aforementioned routing.
