Donner Opens- First WB Through

While the spreader cleared the line between Shed 10 and Switch 9 (single track), freights waited at both ends.  The spreader plowed West to Switch 9, then ran East (not plowing) back into the clear at Shed 10.  The WB went first..

Just great - really gives a feel of the weather and sense of isolation up there.

So they predicted around 3-4 feet for Norden.  What was the final result?

I’m not sure how those things are calculated, but I was here 2 days ago and the added depth is about a foot or so.
I had a job recording the precipitation totals in the Sierra during the winter of 1984-85 and we derived totals from the melted water- so my observed 1ft would not be official under their rules...

81 inches at the base of Sugar Bowl, up the road from Norden, so I suspect they got two foot plus for the storm
