Western Railroad Discussion > Kyle RR passed closed Wonder View TowerDate: 01/18/19 06:43 Kyle RR passed closed Wonder View Tower Author: cozephyr Kyle RR eastbound Utah Railway 5004, MK50-3, and CORP 4074, SD40T-2 ex-SP 8232, passed closed World's Wonder View Tower west of Genoa, Colorado, 17 January 2019.
The World's Wonder View Tower was a tourist trap and roadside attraction along former US 24 located near Genoa, Colorado. The tower was built in the mid-1920s by C.W. Gregory and his partner Myrtle Le Bow. The promoters boasted that it is possible to see six states from the top of the tower. The tower is 65 feet tall. Charles W. Gregory died in 1943, and then the interstate bypassed US 24.The Tower, however, survived, thanks in large part to its owners since 1967, Jerry and Ester Chubbuck. They charge only one dollar for admission. Small signs at the entrance caution the squeamish, "Animal Monstrosities," and "Two-headed calf." Owner Jerry Chubbuck died in 2013. Tower still stands, but is closed to the public. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/18/19 06:45 by cozephyr. We stopped there during a trip to Colorado in 1952, I subsequently lived in CO for 41 years and would always remember the visit when driving by on I-70 going to/from Topeka to visit the folks.
