Western Railroad Discussion > Last Pics From Shed 10 WalkaboutDate: 02/10/19 13:07 Last Pics From Shed 10 Walkabout Author: BoilingMan In the end Sierra Cement wins- it always does. After #5 was by I started my trek out. I knew I would surely meet the flanger and #6, and had hoped to get photos of both. But by now I was running into what Sierra snow is all about: wet. I had with me several soft clothes to keep my lens dry. But by now they were all wet, and even worse- kept freezing! I could thaw them, but as you can see, I could no longer keep the lens clean enough for a crisp image. In the future I'll be packing far more clothes in water tight baggies! BTW, a minor side issue in these conditions was auto-focus. It struggles a bit as things deteriorate into a white-out.
The 1st photo is the flanger, I didn't even try to get #6, and the 2nd is an EB that was trailing #6. SR FIN Date: 02/10/19 13:45 Re: Last Pics From Shed 10 Walkabout Author: SP4360 They're actually pretty cool (or cold) pics.
Date: 02/10/19 13:57 Re: Last Pics From Shed 10 Walkabout Author: BoilingMan Kinda dreamy, right?
SR BTW: A tip of the cap to Canon- this poor camera is taking a real beating and still ticking! As advertised- but I'm still impressed. (Canon 5D III) Date: 02/10/19 14:21 Re: Last Pics From Shed 10 Walkabout Author: Copy19 We should recognize BoilingMan with an honorary Snowshoe Thompson Award for his fearless forays into the High Sierras in the face of howling snow storms to bring us this exceptional railfan photography. This last post tells me he has earned a respite by a warm fire and an adult beverage.

There are some interesting youtube Videos showing how to move your focus points around. Doesn't fix the fogged lens but always something to think about. Date: 02/10/19 19:14 Re: Last Pics From Shed 10 Walkabout Author: BoilingMan TCnR Wrote:

Basically it needs a sharp edge of some kind, so I try and find a tree or something and then re-compose (there's a hold button for that- but I never seem to remember it in time. Practice practice practice, I guess. SR Date: 02/10/19 19:22 Re: Last Pics From Shed 10 Walkabout Author: BoilingMan Thanks, everyone. The adventure of our hobby is always a work in progress and there's always a new way to explore it. It aint all crap just yet!
