CP G-82 Patrol with D&H 7304 Western Wisconsin
Author: Quakerengr

While getting organized to make a run to the Post Office,  I hear the CP Patrol,  FYI Patrol is old Milwaukee Road lingo for locals  and wayfreights still used on these parts of the old Milwaukee,  G-82 with those EMD's  rumbling uphill from West Salem, Wi.  CP usually operates two Patrol's daily out of La Crosse, WI east to Badger, Wi ( rr location) near Oakdale  a distance of 46 miles.  They serve  three sand plants,  2 reload centers  and the Stella Jones Tie plant. As I look out our window, low and behold  D&H 7304 leads.

I gather mail,  camera  and in this case the scanner.  After 39 years of listening to railroad chatter,  I only turn on scanner when an interesting subject is at hand,  today one of those days...

After stopping at Bangor, Wi Post office,  I hear on scanner D&H 7304  stopped at red signal.  I continued east to try and overtake.  They beam up the dispatcher who answers and says  MOW has track for a few more minutes.  I work my way off the county roads  and onto I-90 for a short run  to the next exit.  MOW releases track..

Image 1 and 2  I roll up to Sparta, Wi control point as G-82 roars east with sand empties for drop off at the next two sand plants  they encounter. With a large snow pack for this area and time of year,  with rain and temperatures near 45,  light fog is rolling thru..MOW asks for more time and disp tells them  3 east  and maybe 1 west.

Image 3  CP train 675  BNSF 4028 leading abt 100 sand empties for the sand plant at Sparta that G-82 did not stop at.

more to come...

Image 4  the dispatcher decided to run that 1 west.  2nd 287's huge train with CP  8511 approaches Ice Box Road west of Sparta, Wi

Images 5 & 6 is 2nd east,   CP train 586  oil loads , with CSXT 300 leading four other motors.  Last two idling or dead also at Ice Box Road, with
15, 000 tons.  The 3rd east was Amtrak 8  which I did not see..

Have a great week,

Pat
