Western Railroad Discussion > Info needed on TTX pig flatDate: 04/19/19 08:36 Info needed on TTX pig flat Author: wattslocal A while back the Pacific Railroad Society donated their pig flat to the Orange Empire Railway Museum. After servicing a year or so back we're still trying to get it moved.
In today's world it isn''t easy to have a private car moved. It's easier to send a rocket to the moon. What is needed is an UMLER number, which requires a detailed history and finely detail of all mechanical systems. Is there anywhere or does anyone have any information or place where we can fill in the blanks in this form? The car number is TTX 101211, just a 85 foot flat for two 40 ft trailers. Thanks in advance, Watts local aka Ray Ballash Date: 04/19/19 08:49 Re: Info needed on TTX pig flat Author: PHall wattslocal Wrote:

They should be able to help you. Date: 04/19/19 09:04 Re: Info needed on TTX pig flat Author: sixaxlecentury I would be leery moving a museum piece under the TTX mark, with a TTX umler number. Thats how cars disappear...

TTX still has one old bucket active in UMER - TTX 114. Equipment type P812 85' flat for 2 40' trailers. Likely close enough to get this thing moved. Go into UMLER, go to Maintenence tab, select add/change/delete, choose clone equipment. Put TTX 114 as source equipment id, put in your new mark/number as new equipment ID, and hit submit. It will pull up TTX 114s record and let you copy. Biggest thing is to make sure you have a current air break test and a reflectorization event. You should then be good to go.

Go to RPCA.com and look for unler registration - they handle it for RPCA and many private car owners like me.
Tell them what you are trying to do and she will walk you thru it. Norm Norman Orfall Helendale, CA TIOGA PASS, a private railcar Date: 04/21/19 13:52 Re: Info needed on TTX pig flat Author: CShaveRR Forwarding this from my contacts:
This would appear to be the original number, part of two subgroups spanning 101202-101282 built BSC JTN 12-61=1-62. TTX 101202-101213 got racks pretty early … built 12-61. 101202,101208-101213 had RTTX racks, the others BTTX. They were apparently de-racked by 1964 making the first part of their history rather brief. I don’t have a DF number. The car probably has a stamped number, probably on the side sill near the BR and AL corners which may give an indication of what number it was in the lot. BSC JTN = Brthlehem Steel Corporation, Johnstown, Pennsylvania. I would guess that 12/61 would be the build date, given that it was outfitted with a rack built in 12/61.Regarding the car being de-racked by 1964, that isn't surprising, since 89-foot cars were coming into use, which could better handle the "land yachts" still being built. RTTX was a rigid trilevel rack. If it was converted right away into a pig flat, it probably had a fairly good run as such, because 45-foot trailers weren't common until into the 1970s. I don't know if it would have had any of the early trailer tiedown rails or hooks near where the rear wheels would be. Those became superfluous fairly early into piggybacking, but I remember seeing them on a lot of the older cars. Carl Shaver Lombard, IL |
