BNSF Flooding in Kansas
Author: MSE

Water covers the track on the Douglas Sub in various places from Augusta to Ark City.

A levee overtopped at Elmdale on the La Junta Sub between Emporia and Newton. Clements is expected to flood, as well.

Off topic: the Kansas Turnpike (I-35) is closed due to flooding and will be closed for a while as they are going to have to repair damage to the roadway.

Rain is ending tonight. We'll have a couple of days of dry weather across the State.

Water was over the BNSF main line track at Florence, KS, late Wednesday afternoon. This is on the Southwest Chief route. Unknown if Amtrak Nos. 3 & 4 will have to be detoured during their nighttime runs across Eastern Kansas. Previously, in flood emergencies, the two trains have been detoured over the Union Pacific's Golden State Route (ex-Rock Island) between Topeka and Hutchinson by way of Herington.

No Amtrak detours tonight over the U.P. east of Hutchinson, KS. It's happened before but not this time.

U P having its own problems on the Golden State.   Having to watch track and bridges in the same areas, just a bit upstream, from the same stoms.
