Martin, Utah- Up, up & Away
Author: cozephyr

Brief look at Utah Railway Martin, Utah, facilities-all quiet since MK50-3 locomotives moved to Kyle RR in Kansas back in 2017.  Union Pacific won the Intermountain Power coal contract in late 2016 leaving Wildcat Loadout with no coal loading.  Martin locomotive shop closed and rail yard empty.  NO sound-!

Doesn't look "abandoned" to me. Yes the company has closed the facility but they haven't abandoned it.
They need premission from the STB to abandon anything.

The Utah Railway is an intra-state railroad. Are you sure Utah Railway would need permission from the STB, a federal agency? The STB does have authority over intra-state rail transportation if the transportation is part of the interstate rail network.

Also, your descripition "They need premission from the STB to abandon anything" does not apply to structures.

For those that might know -

Is Utah suffering from a drop in coal mining as badly as Colorado?

I'm just curious.

Utah, in a sense worse due to fewer destinations and a large one (Intermountain) connected to very anti-coal
California.
