Last of the Mohicans, C&NW Style
Author: TexBob

Not since UP 4141 have so many railfans in southeast Texas driven so many miles to shoot the same train. I figured my shot at UP 6706, the last C&NW patched unit, leading the ILBEW 06 wasn't going to
happen account the cluster that is the UP these days. The train was slated to leave San Antonio around midnight, our plan was to meet it just west of Eagle Lake in the early morning light.
Upon checking on it at 0600 this morning, I learned it was barely leavin
g Kirby. Not wanting to make a 300 mile round-trip for sketchy light, I blew it off.

But UP PSR doesn't just take away, sometimes it gives back. Because of the delays in departing San Antonio, the crew only made it to Eagle Lake on their HOS. As no rested crews were available
until late this afternoon, it got pushed back far enough to where I was able to flash it passing through West Junction, in far southwest Houston, at 2020 this evening.

Also, only making a 15 mile round trip from my home was a nice bonus.

Your night shots are better than mine on sunny days, not fair!

All alone like Chingachgook! A new Evolution Series with an original CNW paint scheme--no artsy-fartsy rendition--would look great.

The only way to keep up with you is to cheat. :-)

Great picture! It amazes me how often this locomotive is on the point leading!
