SLRG using Iowa Pacific 100 E-unit
Author: cozephyr

Iowa Pacific 100, E-unit E9A, was moved to Alamosa, CO, earlier in 2019.  Unit was used on freight trains in the San Luis Valley beginning of June 2019.  Unit was noted on the Antonito and Monte Vista, Colorado, trains hauling freight.  Early 14 June 2019 the Iowa Pacific 100 was on tank cars facing east awaiting a crew at Alamosa, CO.

The Iowa Pacific 100 will likely be on the passenger train to Fir, CO, this weekend-15 June 2019.

If that was ex-FEC Pacific No. 148, it's in Florida being rebuilt by US Sugar in Clewiston. USSC bought it from FEC for freight service before it started its third life as a tourist hauler.

Sunset 12 June 2019 found leased UP 3930 with Iowa Pacific 4141 & 4136 ready to head east to Walsenburg, Colorado.  Heard 4141 was having loading issue-!

What about the 2-8-0?

San Luis & Rio Grande 18, the 2-8-0, ex-Lake Superior & Ishpeming 18 is stored in single track engine house east side of Alamosa, CO.

From 1989 to 2006, No. 18 was restored and operational at the Grand Canyon Railroad and became the first steam engine to operate for the railroad.

In 2007, No. 18 took part in the Mt. Hood Scenic Railway for special excursions beginning in the month of July of that year.

The locomotive was restored to its new life at the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad in Alamosa, CO.  However, it, along with Southern Pacific 1744, have been out of service as of 2017.
