Whatever happened to all that CREX stuff?
Author: santafe199

Yeah… what my thread title said! Maybe I’m just not paying attention, but it seems like it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen any of those oddball silver & blue units with the orange stripes. I can understand not seeing them on the UP when I read about and see stored yellow & gray power as I have in Topeka. But I haven’t noticed any running over BNSF territory lately, either.

I have to admit I kinda-sorta miss them. They did provide some change of pace shooting opportunities. When they first arrived on the scene I thought they were very unremarkable looking, to say the least. It took a while for me to warm up to them. But after a while I think I realized a little variety was a good thing. Especially when my main buffet table is stocked with nothing but pumpkins & bananas…

1. CREX 1428 points a westbound unit tank train through Chapman, KS on the KP back on May 14, 2015.

Come back… all is forgiven!

Quite a few CREX units still rolling thru the backyard on the BNSF.

OK. Then I guess I'm zig-zag missing them. Just another reminder that you can't always catch everything...

BNSF coal trains are the most common haunts one lead an amtrak last winter , perhaps with the flooding fewer are headed your way lately..

Their lack of PTC usually regulates them to trail only duty. At least BNSF and UP PTC systems are interoperable now!

Hmmm... Does this mean we'll be seeing more BNSF units on the point in UP territory. Or does the need for UP cab signal compatibility still apply on most of their main lines?

I seem to recall that BNSF has 100 of those CREX-ites (and i see them all the time, the blue cards state they are in posession of BNSF) but in a number series that I think runs 300... I've never seen an account of the siblings.

The last I knew, BNSF still had 100 CREX ES44ACs  in the 1200, 1300, & 1400 number series.  They seem to have been around forever.  How long is their lease?

And 1500's floated through lease deals from ferromex to CSX To either CN or CP. Not sure who got them now.

Yep, 1511 and 1510 were actually on point on consecutive northbounds a few days ago on what remains of the post Moyers main line of mid America, headed for Chi-town.

NS had several leasers, none of the good ones this thread is talking about though.

There's lots of them on the Transcon.  Visible passing many railcams.

Seen one today west of Winslow on a "triple p grainer". It was 3rd in consist, back to back with a Warbonnet. I always thought that was a neat catch, two silver Jacks, differ roads.
