Caption this diesel vs diesel animosity!
Author: santafe199

Train vs truck. Engineer vs driver. Point-to-point vs door-to-door. Jet propulsion technology vs grounded bovine cargo… Take you pick on the subject!

Here’s a link to rail vs highway: ( https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?18,4075741,4075741#msg-4075741 ).

1. BNSF 6682 rolls west along US hwy 50 at Walton, KS with all kinds of neat ‘stuff’ in tow on July 3, 2016. That semi’s lading is most likely a lot more aromatic…

Thanks for playing!

Reminds me of the time the DS put me in the hole at Chelsea for what seemed like hours. Frustrated, I kept bugging him about being parked there. Finally I mentioned it was thoughtfull of him to park us where we could see our busness blow by on I-35. I got verbally spanked for that one.

The late Louis W. Menk once said that locomotive engineers were “nothing more than glorified truck drivers".

Engineer to truck driver: Oh you're hauling 20,000 pounds of freight? That's cute.

Poor Lou. He forgets 1 driver with doubles moves 80 tons. Meanwhile one engineer on a coal or grain train moves 16,000 tons these days. Seems like the engineer is 200 truckers ahead.

Another great Lance captured shot and discussion afterwards.
I watch the truckers here in Eaton, CO north thru Pierce and Nunn slow down for towns speed limits while UP goes thru at 60 MPH. I was following a southbound UP Hotshot UPS from north of Nunn south and because of speed limits which in Nunn are paramount, then Pierce and Ault caught up with head end by Eaton where another 35 MPH kicked in as Eaton PD is serious.

Big problem with trucking is that no one wants to drive anymore - they are a prime target for autonomous operation.

I'd love to drive but it pays one third what railroad pays and you are home even LESS than railroad.
