Western Railroad Discussion > UP pops a wheelie in Central TexasDate: 07/10/19 20:33 UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: ssw I'm guessing given the train makeup and number of units that this was a MSAFW, UP 4449 leading.
Something happened, and the UP 1536 popped a wheelie on the UP Waco Sub in Hewitt, TX this evening. Bradley Linda Waco, TX Date: 07/10/19 20:40 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: justalurker66 4 MPH is a couple, 5 MPH is a collision?
Date: 07/10/19 20:52 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: 3rdswitch Probably returning to train after set out too fast, OR, cut of cars rolled into power, OR yard engine shoved cars to hook on power too fast couldn't have been much else? If it was radio failure, which one are they going to hang? A little too much dependence on radio these days where hand signs are a lost art. The frame of that old GP held up pretty well.

Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 07/12/19 05:58 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: Rmosele On another rail site that mentioned this and had different pictures someone mentioned that the train went into emergency and the engineer didn't bail the independent brakes so the train piled up on the locomotives that stopped on a dime. Didn't say where he got that information.

but it probably made a similar amount of noise. TAW Date: 07/12/19 06:44 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: cabman Hope this doesn't get censored, but now that Proviso's hump yard is closed, is this the newest version of "humping"?
Date: 07/12/19 08:09 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: fbe If it was a coupling accident it takes a notable amount of time for the independent brake air applied from the lead locomotive to reach the 7th unit back. There is a lot of momentum in all that power to work with.
If it was indeed a run in from an emergency brake application then it is a whole different set of physics. When will we get the actual story? Date: 07/12/19 09:10 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: hartrick24 I know, it's a new way to change out a truck...
Steve H... Date: 07/12/19 10:58 Re: UP pops a wheelie in Central Texas Author: ssw I think this had something to do with going into emergency. Nearest yard is about 8 miles north (Bellmead), nearest industry is a mile and a half north or so. train is in "downtown" Hewitt, had 3 crossings blocked. I wonder if they had a "near miss" at one of the crossings and plugged it.
