Western Railroad Discussion > 705 Miles West of Belen

As confirmed by the milepost on BNSF's Needles Sub, NS DC to AC conversion AC44C6M #4005 led BNSF symbol Q-AUGLAC through the Mojave Desert location of Pisgah this afternoon.  This is the same train posted by MP4093 below on July 9 when it was in Oklahoma.  (NS 9977 was jettisoned from the consist somewhere between there and here.)  Unfortunately, this was the only decent shot I was able to get, as the sun angle at this time of day and year on this part of the Needles Sub puts the light nearly straight down the rails for westbounds.  Thanks as always for the position reports today, too (you know who you are).

1.  NS 4005 and NS 8052 are moving right along through Pisgah.

2.  Due to the sun angle, the next possibility of decent light west of Pisgah would likely be the Yucca Ave. overpass at the east side of Barstow.  As luck would have it, the two tracks on the sunny side were occupied, so I settled for this tele-smash.  At about the same time, Barstow Hightower told the crew to tie it down and wait for their ride, so there was no chance for a sunlit chase down Cajon later in the afternoon (which had been my original goal).

Great Catch! Was surprised that it stayed as the Leader out of Winslow.  Heard them come into Winslow and listening to the online scanner, then heard them leave with NS 4005 with the new crew!
