GGRM leasing track space at Pruitt Industrial Park Windsor
Author: weather

According to a release in Golden Gate Railroad Museum Newsletter and info from Northern California Club Newsletter edited by Ron Vane, Board of Director, member, GGRM, "... is now leasing land in the Windsor area for a museum railroad yard and shop facilities."  ( Its at the Pruitt Industrial Park at Windsor.  The Park is served by a spur off the NWP mainline)   "....and will be used for a museum railroad yard and shop facilities so that GGRM will not have to use NWPR track space and will have space of their own.  It would be a service yard along side the NWP tracks to support proposed excursion trains on the NWP."  Ron Vane said   "...the track and yard space is paved and has some utilities. Ron added that the  GGRM ....."Hopes to fit everthing in here (Windsor) that does not fit at Scellville. This site will not be developed as a Museum for visitors but will be a wok site for members and may even have an office with bunk house space for volunteers on site. ".    All inquires including membership and donations should be refereed to 2472info@ggrm.org   The following images show the end of track inside the old "Standad Structures Plant". now Pruitt Industrial Park.  Photos by Mike Pechner  Copyright 2018 "All Ritghs Reseved'"

South of Pruitt, Mike, not on Pruitt's property. They'd never allow that.

Google satellite images show a lead, then a street crossing, then a switch, one lead goes toward a concrete company parking lot, the other goes to the bottom of the Pruit yard. Open for suggestions where they are doing this.

Also, hell of a long trip on the Smart/NWP rails to get there from Schellville yard. When is this all happening?

Mike when was the last time the NWP went to Windsor and have they been doing the track and signal inspections and are all the crossing flangeways and the vegetation been cut

FRA frowns on moves that sound to be a bootleg move

HOUSTON -- WE HAVE A PROBLEM

Over the years I had hopes that the GGRM would merge with PLA and live happily ever after --
but apparently that is not to be. Old egos didn't heal and GGRM folks didn't realize what a great location they had with PLA.

This fantasy project doesn't have a chance in Hell to ever succeeding.

GGRM folks should have realized that they must own their own property to exist. With the price of property in California it is impossible that a few railfans could ever do it again. Sitting on someone else's property by a handshake, and someday as California is always expanding, the property will probably be sold to a realtor who sees that there is no return on his investment with all this railroad junk on it, then they will really have to find another place.

All of us have gotten to old to do physical work again, and for the first few years all there will be is hard, dirty work building track for all the equipment. Railroads seem to attract low life  trash people, vandals and theives who will ravage the equipment. A secure fence first is a must. Then it's water, power, a place to take a leak and on and on. Since 911 things have changed for the worse and liability insurance is a must. Hopefulluy there will be friendly neighbors and no homeless people seeing their now home rolling in the door.

Having done all that for the last sixty plus years at Perris, it's not easy, but I enjoyed it.

Starting all over again is out of the question.

Good luck,

I coulden't agree more! I wish those two groups could have worked things out between each other but oh well! Sadly I don't think we'll ever see the 2472 run again, it was fun while it lasted!

NWP has been storing empty Grain cars at the Windsor siding since last year. Some of those cars have also been stored at the 6200 ft. Burdell siding near Gnoss Airport.

Did the first five cars UP agreed to move make it to Schellville yet?

GGMX 141 and 2979 moved back in June and should be there. GGMX 293 and 5901 were interchanged to the CFNR this morning at Suisun. GGMX 3714 and 3722 show in Roseville now. And GGMX 3720 shows in Stockton.

Are these three cars the SP bi-level commute cars they just bought?

This is the same Windsor  NWP  reached when they first reopened a few years ago, right? Think I got up there with a camera and photographed most of the features mentioned.

NWP was storing empty pressurized hoppers (not grain) in Windsor for over a year, now they're at Burdell but the line between MP59.9 at airport all the way to 63 is in service, active, sprayed for weeds and the whole shebang. Last time NWP went up there was during ATC testing a week ago.
