This Way and That Way.....
Author: funnelfan

BNSF's former Great Northern Kettle Falls branch is certainly a curvy path. For the most part, still on the original Spokane Falls & Northern Rwy alignment, the curves and grade mandate special train handling and consists. Not only do you have the unquie motive power sets of A-B-B-B-A GP60M/B's, engineers are restricted from using dynamic brakes and must use air to keep the train in check coming down the steep grades. Even still incidents are frequent and this day was no exception. A knuckle in the middle of the train failed coming across the Little Spokane River which is the bottom of the climb into and out of the valley. Captions are on the images.

What a branch! Great shots. Good traffic. Amazing that you can't use DB's and power brake, which is against the rules most everywhere!

GN train at the exact same spot. Trees and brush make the scene impossible to recreate.
