It will when they rebuild the Maybach that powers the rear transmission.

Terrific job by the volunteers and techs who put this unit in the position of opportunities that it has at this time. I am not a KM or Maybach guy, but wow, it looks great! Hope the next level works for all involved. Great shots.

Did they install a portable generator to operate the lights, bell and control stand?

Wouldn't the lights and control stand be powered through the MU cable and the air operated bell get's it's air via from the main reservior?

Air supply is from the main reservoir equalizing line.  Electric is via jumper from the trailing locomotive connected to keep the 9010's batteries charged.

Howard,

Thanks for the great work you and the team do. It was on display this weekend, 9010, 5472, 5623. All look great. Wonderful job!

The SD-9 looks small.

In comparing the SD-9 to the KM, I wonder if, had they been more successful, would that KM body style even have fit on Eastern RR's?   Or was it sized for western clearances?

No.  MU cable supplies electricity for the headlights but all ancillary electric devices on a locomotive are powered through that locomotives auxiliarly generator.

One thing that has bothered me about the photos of the 9010 are the 4 beveled areas in the walkway on both sides of the unit - why are they there? Today, in another post of a K-M, I see what they were for - sand boxes. Are there plans to install sandboxes back to the 9010? I think it looks awesome as is so it's no big deal but at least my curiosity has been satisfied.

Yes, most definately.  They will have to be constructed from scratch and we have just put that on the bottom of the list.  Good catch!!
