Afternoon vantage point of Davis Ranch curve, Cajon Pass.

-Union Pacific 8180 leads this freight as it descends Cajon Pass on Santa Fe iron,  it's hitting the sweeping curve at the old Davis Ranch homestead(To the left of the UP right of way). Recently repainted SD70Ms 4605 and 4433 trail in the consist.

I don't know how you do it? A few weeks ago I was there and it took all I had to make it half as far as you did. Keep up the great work!

I like that vantage point, you can see everything. Appreciate the effort to get up there.

Anyone know why the ranch / homestead is gone?

Great picture! When I see these wide panorama shots, I always have to look up the area on Google Maps.
I noticed an old right-of-way coming from the middle part of the curve:  https://www.google.com/maps/place/Cajon+Pass/@34.3239134,-117.4905356,796m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x80c34146ebbf80cd:0x1d668e0f18b95751!8m2!3d34.3117!4d-117.475
In your picture it's visible just above the UP power, and continues off to the right.
Does anyone know when this line change took place? Just curious.
Thanks for the post -- and I have to agree, that's some serious hiking! ;-)

That is quite a view of the Palmdale cutoff and the ATSF "north track" going past I-15 and up the hill a ways.  How is the view from that spot looking down the pass?  Also is there any view of the ATSF "south track" from there?  More pics please!

Man, what an Incredible shot! I sure wish that I would have explored these areas when I lived out there:{ Great job searching out new angles on Cajon!

-Multiple forest fires and the passings of the owners.

I assume SFe broadened this curve at the
same time they broadened Sullivan's Curve,
around 1977-78.

-There is a small window to see the South track but not a good shot, and to catch uphills you need to walk a fair distance more towards the Mormon Rocks.
