Western Railroad Discussion > Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre!Date: 09/10/19 03:58 Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: santafe199 You never know when some unusual, entertaining event will just jump out in front of your camera. So there I was on a routine chase of a train up BNSF’s Strong City Sub. Other than knowing the train’s engineer personally, and a decent Red & Silver specimen trailing there was nothing out of the ordinary about this chase. As I will do at times, I chose to go for a more artsy ‘scene’ shot when I got to Navarre, KS. I set up a shot looking due east along KS hwy 43 which doubles as the… (pardon my snicker… ;^) “main drag” in this microscopic Kansas community. I had the old *more like ancient* general store canopied walkway now overgrown with Kansas sunflowers. Complete with a rusty-looking mailbox that may not have been used since the Pony Express days. And on the other side of the high-density main drag is the omnipresent agricultural outfit that every small town in Kansas seems to have. In 2019 it goes by the name “Agri Trails Coop”.
1. 1965(?) Pontiac GTO struts by. Click! I was so surprised by the first car in this 3-car parade that I missed getting a shot. I think it was a Ford, maybe a ’65 Galaxie… 2. Next up was this 1960(?) Chevy Impala SS is next, Click! 3. Followed by a 2019(?) Kenworth T680(?). CLUNK! Not exactly your typical 50s-60s sport model babe-mobile cruiser… ;^) Date: 09/10/19 03:59 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: santafe199 Oh yeah, the main topic! Here’s the train I was chasing:
4. BNSF 1105 in H-1 paint with R/S 798 trailing rolls through with a grain empty which goes by the official symbol: “X ELPHON9-04”. When my friendly hogger texted me this symbol I had to chuckle! I shot a text right back. Here it is verbatim: “Roger: ‘X-rated TELEPHONE #9’. Sounds like something off the Beatles’ famous White Album…” Impromptu antique car show date at Navarre, KS: September 7, 2019. Thanks for the show! Lance Garrels santafe199 Date: 09/10/19 04:21 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: Korigaoka1811 I always suspected that those GM "bubble-top" cars from the early 60's, like that Chevy, were inspired by dome cars on the trains.

Love the shot down the "main drag" and the sunflowers! Really captures Kansas in late summer! Jeff N Olathe, KS Date: 09/10/19 05:22 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: robj Excellent set, taking advantage of a nice location and some serendipity. Goats looked nice but often got shutdown by 396 Chevelles. My fav for looks was 67 or so 442, red convertible.
Thanks for all you scenes and narratives!! Bob Jordan It is standard for me to see something different than what I am looking to shoot and then say, Oh crap that would have been a good photo. Bob Jordan Date: 09/10/19 07:48 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: SD608708 That is a 66/67 GTO. Closer inspection can identiy which year.

Thanks. All I had for reference was Google Images, hence all of the question marks... Date: 09/10/19 09:32 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: Ritzville Very NICE series with some great looking cars from my era. Also liked BNSF H1 1105 and Warbonet 798, both past visitors in the backyard. I like the gas price in Navarre, KS, beats the 2.95 here.

There are multiple show this coming weekend. I'll be at the one in Perry (I'm sure some of Uncle Pete's bananas will be rollin' through) 😎🍌
Richie Kennedy Lawrence, KS route56.com Date: 09/10/19 15:36 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: sp3204 1966-'67 GTO's on the exterior are virtually identicle. I own a 1967 GTO; the exterior spotting features are the
grill and the tail lights basically. The grill on this one says it's a 1966. Date: 09/10/19 19:18 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: UP951West Great shots , Lance. Thanks for posting them. Strong composition in 1,2, and 4. --Kelly
Date: 09/10/19 20:41 Re: Toto Tuesday: Showtime at Navarre! Author: ATSFSuperChief Had three vintages at one time: 1969 Volvo 1800S, 1966 Lincoln Continental 2 door and a work horse 1976 Ford F-250. Lost the Volvo in Forest Fire, sold the Lincoln and F-250 as I was getting too old to keep working on them while building a large basement layout.
