Toto Tuesday: A Midland Duo

Midland, due north (RR west) of Lawrence on UP's Kansas Sub is one of my favorite locations to hang on the line, as in the afternoons, you can get good light on both east AND westbounds, and thanks to the amount of notice you can get here with straightaways and signals, you can get plenty of time to reposition yourself for good photos. As an added bonus, you'll literally never get hassled there!

That being said, here's a pair that I shot through there late last week.

Photo 1: This is the KCS 4781 in charge of the LMC52, a local that works between Topeka and Kansas City.  The solo KCS motor is certainly a rare find for this train.

Photo 2: Charging westbound out of Lawrence is this stack train behind a pair of EMDs, the UP 4119, and a newer ACe.

Thanks for looking,
- Jeff Carlson

Nice shots, Jeff! I'll make sure I go there the next time I'm up that way.

Nice pair of images! Always love spending time at Midland when I'm up there. It's neat to see the next train several miles away when standing on the levee.
