Cheyenne Light
Author: Bob3985

This morning on the way to my office I was looking at the refinery and it reminded me of a photo taken of it earlier in the early morning light.
I am always fascinated by this refinery and the steam that arises from the new scrubber unit. I call it my honorary steam locomotive.
So I pulled off and and grabbed this shot with my phone.
Enjoy the photo.

Should be much more in the winter, eh?

This morning we had some heavy humidity. But yes the refinery is awesome when the temps drop.
I may get the digital SLR out some night and go for a time exposure.

Thanks for sharing, Bob ... a nice image capturing
two of Cheyenne's big economic drivers ... a UP stack
train on the UP main line and the Holly-Frontier refinery, one of the more modern
refineries in the West ...

I always remember my days on the east end switch engine working the old Frontier refinery as it was called then. One of the tracks down in the Coking tower loading area was still called the DP Main ( Denver Pacific). It was the original line from Denver to Cheyenne for those who are unfamiliar.

I can remember in my Santa Fe days rolling right through the Getty Refinery complex at El Dorado, KS. The steamy scenes in the cold of winter were awesome, but I never thought to take any shots. Opportunities now gone forever...
