A BNSF train whacked a car at about milepost 108.75 on the Sac Sub last night just after 10PM. Don't have any other details.

With all of the train/vehicle incidents out there, you would think that there would be more emphasis in driver's ed classes on the respect that railroad crossings deserve. When my kids started driving just a few short years ago, I asked them about what was covered, if anything, about crossings. They both said not much. There isn't much in the rules of the road books they were given either. Considering your chances of meaningful survival in a crossing wreck, one would think it would deserve a little higher attention.

That's because driver education in this nation is a joke compared with, say, Germany.  It takes a much longer time there to be certified as a COMPETENT driver.  In America, barely anything in comparison.

i seriously don't think that in this day and age any increased amount of driver's education awareness would make any significant difference on decreasing vehicle/train collisions.

i base this on daily observations of other drivers and some serious issues in today's society.................

Went through there on an eastbound today. The westbound intermediate at MP 109 was laying in the dirt, with the remains of a vehicle’s exhaust system. The whole block was screwed so we had to flag through Kingdon. Then we hit the detector at 109.5 which gave me a chance to get some fresh air at Thornton before getting underway again. Fun times.

And one of the short WP ones to boot. But they fixed it. Back in service, good as new.
