MVT 1200
Author: TAW

I've lived in western WA, Seattle and north, for over 40 years, commuted back and forth between Bellingham/Ferndale and the Seattle and Maple Valley dispatchers offices for a couple of years, and worked at the BN MVB station occasionally off the extra board for a year, was around Mt Vernon a lot while developng the Cascades service, and never saw a (the, actually) MVT locomotive. Every time I went by, the engine was in the engine house next to the I5 bridge. I went to Mt Vernon for a meeting Friday (13th) and encountered MVT 1200 out in the open. I had only the phone, no camera, so cell phone pictures are what I got. No trespassing involved, just jayrunning across Freeway Drive.

Glad you finally got it.  Getting one when an engine house is involved can sometimes be very frustrating. #1200 is really a sharp looking unit.

What remains of the Pugest Sound & Cascades Rwy, built by the one time great Clear Lake Lumber Co of Clear Lake, WA. Unfortauntely the company faltered and enter bankrputcy in 1925, and was liquidated in 1927. MVT started in 1933 switching customers in Mount Vernon first using a steam locomotive, then a series of plymouth gasoline switchers before acquiring the Baldwin from the Navy in the mid 1980's.

Isn't the railroad like just over a mile down a street?

Nice catch TAW. I had no idea this even existed but had stayed the night in Mount Vernon about 2 weeks ago and passed it while out looking for a bite to eat. It was dark then so stopped back in the morning to grab some shots. Horrible light but at least I got something. Couldn't wait for better light since I was catching the ferry to Juneau and Skagway.

Down the street is gone. It is about 2700 feet long.
