BNSF 4729 - H2 / Warbonnet / H1, you name it!
Author: MrMRL

A sister unit to the recently shopped H1/H2 blend C44-9W BNSF 4331, here is BNSF 4729 photographed a few days back in Los Angeles, CA sporting a large section of BNSF Warbonnet longhood sandwiched between H2 ends. With several bits of H1 poked in here and there for fun.

So far I've personally seen BNSF 4331 and 4729 with these unique shop creations. I'm certain I saw a photo on this very site within the past couple months of at least one other BNSF C44-9W unit that recieved a hood swap similar to 4331 with H1 in the middle of H2, the number was somewhere within the 5300-5500 range? I've been unable to sucesfully dig up the image though, my searching though the TO.com archives has yet to recover any details. It was mentioned and shown within a completely unrelated thread making the search more dificult. Anyone else remember the topic?

Frankenunit for sure. Used to think air conditioner swapping on the CW44-9's was bad enough, even some really oddball stuff like like a A/C off a CN unit on a BNSF H2 unit. There there was the occasional replacement door. But this is some "next level" stuff!  ;^D

Wasn't there a H-2 with a Conrail nose door? Not as drastic as the hood swap.

BNSF H2 C44-9W #4560 had a CR nose door between 2006 and 2012. The door has since either been replaced or simply repainted orange.

NS 8447 (an ex Conrail C40-8W) on the other hand, recieved a replacement nose door in early 2006 showing a very weather-beaten BNSF H2 scheme (or halfassed black paint covered). The old Conrail blue unit was repainted NS Black in 2011.

Somewhere, probably in the break room at the back of the shop, the crew are rolling on the floor laughing about what they have done! LOL

Just a symptom of the problem.  RR's treat their employees bad.  Boss says put that hood on that unit.  Rather than questioning the boss.  Employee says "OK."  Employee gets blamed. Boss lives another day to make another dumb decision.

This might be BNSF 5441.  Here's a recent picture (not mine, from a friend) of what this unit looks like.

A real hybrid, for sure.  In the canine world, it's called "fashionable crossbreeding", but certainly not here!

That's the problem of having multiple paint schemes. If BNSF was like say NS with their one paint scheme...

How's it a dumb decision?  It works all the same, right?  #PartsIsParts

Caught the 4729 today. Pulled up next to it as it sat on a Q LAC LPC 6 outside Belen. Now I catch myself looking for mashups more often.
