That's a super, super RARE catch of a train in the siding at Gold Run, then exiting back onto the mainline!  And even more rare being it's a BNSF train!!  Those photos are keepers, for sure.

Can someone explain why there is a signal mast for the Main #2, but no signal except for the BNSF train in the siding to proceed to Main #2??

Most likely there was a signal there in the past and it was removed and it was too much trouble to remove the pole and the base.

Yes, when they changed all the signals for bi-directional running a few years ago, the mainline signals were moved Eastward about a quarter mile. They now stand at the former site of the Dutch Flat depot.

Back in the 50s I used to go to a church camp at Alta. Always enjoyed the sounds of freights working the grade, as well as the ones coming down. And, usually got to actually see some of them between Dutch Flat and Alta. Great memories.
