Western Railroad Discussion > Free, California questionDate: 10/05/19 19:59 Free, California question Author: The-late-EMD Freeport, ca located in nor-Cal near Sacramento. I pass through this small town today in notice some abandoned tracks. Anybody know the history of this line?
Posted from Android Date: 10/05/19 20:21 Re: Free, California question Author: BoilingMan That’s the old SP Hood branch, that ran down to (wait for it.... ) Hood.
This is the far end of the line the CA RR Museum runs on, although this end of it has been out of service for decades. I ran on it with my old M-19 motorcar (SN M-51) in the early 80’s and it was barely passable in my speeder- the fills were sliding out from under the track, so it was kinda “lumpy”. SR Yes, yes- I know: TOTALLY trespassing. (But don’t you kinda wish you’d done it.... ) Date: 10/05/19 20:27 Re: Free, California question Author: uprrman156 I think it went all the way to Isleton Ca at one time

People traveling through out the world in search of long forgotten railroad lines.

So per the contract they reinstalled the removed track, trackmobile and ballast hoppers were the last things that ever ran through Freeport! Out |
