More GVR FL9 plus TexRail
Author: HomerBedloe

Grapevine Vintage RR is now inescapably linked to TexRail, as they now run on TexRail tracks from Grapevine to Haltom City.  So while I was out on Sunday, I couldn't avoid a few TexRail shots as well.  Here's a couple of their trains, with a final shot of the eastbound GVR 2016 heading back to Grapevine.

These were taken in North Richland Hills between the Ironhorse and Smithfield stations.  On the westward trip, GVR leaves Grapevine following the arrival of an eastbound TexRail train, and has enough time (1 hour headways at 1 pm) to run all the way from Grapevine to its own tracks at Haltom City.  On the eastward trip, it's a bit more tricky because the TexRail headways are down to 1/2 hour.  So the GVR enters the TexRail track at HC as soon as the westbound TR goes by, then proceeds about 5 miles to a second track at Smithfield.  There it has to wait until it meets a second westbound, and is overtaken by an eastbound.  The GVR follows the eastbound towards Grapevine.  If everything works correctly, the GVR can clear the main at Grapevine just ahead of the next westbound.  If the GVR is running a little slow, the dispatcher will hold the GVR at a siding just south of Grapevine to let the westbound TR pass, then takes the GVR to its station track.

In this video, the two TexRail trains are westbound followed by eastbound, then the GVR makes its dash from HC to Smithfield.  On the head on view, the TexRail train looks a bit like the new Sprinter Amtrak locos - and TexRail's colors match as well!

From last week, here's the 2016 in the station track at Grapevine.  The adjacent tracks are TexRail's Track 1 and 2.  Here's also a shot of what the 2199 looked like last week - you can see in the video that they've started the first layer of paint.

Thanks for looking in!

Nicely done video, good composition.  Whose railroad was this originally?

THIS, and not the Wall Street marketing malarkey being put out by the big railroads, is Precision Scheduled Railroading, US version.   BSB
