4014 overtaking a BNSF mixed freight coming out of Barstow
Author: sscannella

Taken Sunday morning just west of the 58 overpass west of Barstow, a BNSF mixed freight slowly crawls out of the yard, when about 1:40 into the video, 4014 starts her charge overtaking the freight.

I'm a stat junkie, and I was wondering if anyone might know what the symbol of the freight was?  How about the symbols 4014 was using while on BNSF and UP?

THanks.

Very nice video.
I've wondered what the freight crews working last Sat/Sun thought of seeing that either coming towards them, or in this case, seeing it looming in the left side mirror?

Great video, should be VOTD.

But a really scuzzy looking freight; lots of graffiti on just about all of the cars.

Welcome to 2019.

And the freight has four of the 7700 series units on it which are captive to the LA Basin area south of Barstow. They all show signs of being parked unattended for too long at Fontana.
My guess this was either a LA Harbor train or a Daygo headed for San Diego.

On Sunday I caught a couple of them taking pictures/video of the train as it went by.

Right spot... right time to capture this overtaking. I couldn't help but notice that the the UPRR Excursion train's 2 locomotives, sound quiet as if both are not in a high Run notch; if even notched up from idle; whereas, the UP 4014 Big Boy sounds like it is powered by a jet engine, when it passes the camera's microphone, on the slight upgrade.
