Milwaukee S Curve Trestle - Sounder Bridge
Author: DelMonteX

It's been almost 2 years since the razing of the Milwaukee S Curve trestle in Tacoma and the completion of the replacement 2-track bridge built by Sound Transit.

I documented that process here on Trainorders over a period of a year and a half, all the while taking images for a timelapse.

After getting a few other projects out of the way and conquering a mild case of procrastination, I was able to finish my documentary of the project, in time of this years Autumn Leaf Slideshow in Centralia WA.

Here's the show in 4k on Vimeo.  It's much too large (and long) for posting here.

So click the link and enjoy (I hope).

You put together an amazing documentary.  The project was obviously planned very well with the traffic being maintained as well as the close proximity to buildings.

I like how the new bridge pays homage to the Milwaukee Road with the sign on the blue span of the bridge.

Thank you for your excellent coverage of the replacement of the Milwaukee S Curve Trestle! Having seen it in person several times, it was sad to see it torn down.

From the point of view of someone who put a lot of effort into getting rid of it, I'm not sad at all. Steve's excellent work (including the MILW logo) is all that is needed. I'd rather see the improved line brought back to life than see the preserved relic on an empty railroad.

I also have somewhere pictures of timbers that were replaced so that the bridge wouldn't collapse (as it almost did, which is how the rotten timbers were discovered). That is just part of what was wrong with it.

No I totally agree, the old relic had to go before if fell down on it's own.
