This is right next to I-80 around Mustang.  Credit to the unknown original photographer via the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District Twitter account.

From the looks of those engine room doors this one has fried before.
I guess old habits are hard to break!

6692 was just tired of being overshadowed by 4014 and was trying to put on a show for the photo run by.

Nothing to see here. This is what UP wants. That is all.

Looks like a Turbocharger failure to me

Question: When the lead unit fails, is it possible to "take it out" (shut the prime mover down) and still maintain control of its remaining functions (i.e. horn, head and ditch lights, etc.) as well as controlling the following units, as if the lead unit was dead-in-consist?
... just wondering...

I think that's maybe more serious than a turbo failure, I think the crank case has gone and the train is about to stop if it hasn't already.

Sand in the flues?  :)

Looks like he wants to give 4014 a run for the money.

Looks like a runaway on crankcase oil. Just stuff a sock in the airbox. :)

That's just a GE doing what GE's do.  Nothing to see here.  Move along.
