A (ex) SP Tunnel Motor grinding up a 4% grade
Author: inCHI

For this ex-SP Tunnel Motor, the closest thing to Tennessee Pass you could see now is something perhaps even more impressive; fighting the 4%+ grades of the Andes mountains on the Central Railroad of Peru. This post I made on the International Board has a video of it, and explains more about it.

That is impressive. Looks lie the plough has had more to contend with other than snow.

According to RR Pictures Archive, that particular locomotive seems to have led an interesting life:

   SP 8382   USRP 6106   KCS 6106    FCCA 1024

Very cool! That is a long ways from home, glad to see it is still earning it’s keep.

Do you have the history of the FCCA 1023 that is running behind the 1024?   It looks to have originally been a SD40 but was probably upgraded to be a SD40-2 at some point prior to heading south.

Miss those 40 whiners!    There is an excellent video of this unit and the Andes on Youtube.   Shown getting a spin on a turntable and running through some very colorful scenery.
