IAIS 517 in primer, on BNSF Wabtec-GE I/C track in Ft. Worth
Author: dsrc512

Delivered 11/16/2019.  Apparently a single unit order, to be painted elsewhere. Correction, part of a three unit order 517-519. Thanks to "tracklight's" post below.  Locomotive is a ES44C, s/n 66132, Sep 2019, weight 432,000#.  Photo by Mike Palmieri on loconotes@groups.io website,

Coupled to it was BNSF 3721, an ET44C4, s/n 66135, Nov 2019, weight 416,000#

Wonder how many new units the BNSF will get on this order and why? They just stored over two hundred perfectly good units.

Unaware the BNSF has anything on order right now.  Are you thinking this IAIS order is piggybacked on a BNSF order?
Not looking forward to more GE's on the IAIS as some of the really cool SD38-2's will be retired.  Drat!

I was unaware of this BNSF order too and my thought is the BNSF order is actually piggybacked off a different order because of some of the spotting features of the new BNSF units. There are a few pics of brand new BNSF 3721 on rrpicturearchives and it has the 'wide' front handrails like CSX and NS order their units with. The Santa Fe GEs have this style and the last BNSF units delivered with them were the H1 dash9s.

I agree with you, Nick.  We don't need any more stinking GE's!

You might need any more but our neighbor down the street from our Cedar Rapids office loves the things!

Those handrails suck, I hope they don’t switch back to them for all new orders

No they don't!  And I know people who worked for the Rock that didn't like that paint scheme either!

Just 4 units this go around, I believe they picked them off another order for dirt cheap.

Nope, it’s a stand-alone order placed by IAIS in October 2018 for 3 units.

the IAIS ES44AC’s aren’t tacked onto anyone else’s order, it’s a standalone order placed by IAIS in late 2018. Even if they were tacked onto another roads order, they would be identical to the units of that larger order with the only exception being paint. The IAIS units are ES44AC’s whereas the BNSF units are ET44C4’s, two completely different models. If they were tacked onto the BNSF order then they would be exactly the same as the BNSF units, Tier 4 ET44AC’s, far different than what IAIS already operates and is taking delivery of.

These two locomotives have been sitting in the garden at the Haslet DSF the past couple days. The BNSF unit has instructions taped to the door window that it will ride DIT to San Antonio (likely for emissions testing). I'm not sure when this will happen, but these moves typically go ALLITX to NYDFTW, then to UP Davidson Yard and move from there.
