Southbound Z out of Brooklyn Yard in Portland, actually IBRLC, with three units but only allowed two online and 9500' of train.  They made it to Eugene but never made track speed from what I understand. The longest siding on this district is a bit over 8000'

Investors still complaining that they need more money to pay for their houses in the Hamptons and alimony checks.

"Never made track speed" and yet that is supposed to speed up train velocity???

Omaha would say that was a success.

Did the crew say their avg speed? Or just that they couldnt make a 4 hour trip down the district

What is the trains scheduled run time?  What was the actual run time?   Those questions will lead you to the answer if the run was a success.

I would have put that 3rd unit online anyway! I'm glad I don't work for BNSF anymore, what a joke modern railroading has become.

Let's see, competition over on I-5 makes it in two hours but hey train only needed two units!

There’s probably a huge amount of time built into the shedule, so it can go very slow and stay on time. UP isn’t interested in competing with trucks; more like they are trying to drive business to the truckers.

It's a real simple concept - rather than speed the train up, simply slow the schedule down.

Although retired I still go to my local union meetings here and evidently sometime early next year UP loses the UPS contract on the I-5 Corridor, no doubt because they don't want to expedite anything.

It means that it's meeting the schedule promised to the customer. Actually ahead of it. 

Why yes, and anyone who can both explain that and have the customer agree has a tremendous future in sales
and marketing.

Some people are forgetting that this used to be the ZBRLC (as hinted by the OP), and has been downgraded to IBRLC. I suspect UP is charging the customers less money due to this downgrade, since it's no longer "priority" or "premium"?? I'm speculating the downgrade was accompanied by more generous scheduling, although that needs to be confirmed by someone in-the-know. Based on that, if the IBRLC came into Roseville 4.5 hours early, then UP didn't get paid extra for that "speed" and maybe should have shut off the 2nd unit. :-)

This sounds like the morning I-train through Dunsmuir. It seems to be morning or afternoon depending on how they did getting up Cascade Summit. The past few days they had the exiting dragger anouncement at 323.4 while crossing Shear avenue (321.??), longest train I've seen through here. Sounds like an empty I-train actually and sometimes they have two a day, could be yesterday's train for all I can tell from trackside. But like the man said as long as the Customer and Investors are happy.
