Coal Train in Caldwell, TX
Author: texchief1

1.  You are looking south at UP's Giddings Sub in Caldwell, TX.  On the left is a SB UP vehicle train that has been parked since 4 a.m.with air problems.  UP runs mostly SBs on this Sub, but BNSF uses it for NB and SB traffic.  On the right coming at you is a BNSF NB trackage rights empty LCRA coal train that unloaded at Halsted, TX and is heading back to Wyomiing.  It is just getting ready to get back on home rails as it will take the transfer to the NB BNSF Galveston Sub.  Once there it can go down the siding or crosssover to the main.  The lead power for the empty coal train is BNSF AC4400W 5671 and BNSF SD70ACe 8567.  The DPUs for this train are two BNSF SD70Macs, 9791 and 9816.  It is 10:30 am September 29, 2019.

2.  Same as no.1 on the transfer track.  It t akes about 9 minutes for a coal train to negotiate the transfer because of the sharp curvature.

3.  The DPUs finally make it to the transfer track at 10:39 a.m.  They are BNSF SD70MACs 9791 and 9816.  These shots were taken from the Banks Street overpass in Caldwell, TX.

Thanks for looking.

Nice shots--really like the track undulation through the length of the trains.
