how close is nearest fuel for my auto and a resturant or convient store to purchase snacks. tyia

ie: not close!!  Don't go if you aren't prepared.  At least there are outhouses at the parking lot.

Nederland is the closest town that has gas and food, it's 13 miles away. Rollinsville has food, gas not sure, it's 8 miles away.

Yeah Nederland is the answer here.   I once lived in the area for many years and really, Nederland was the only mountain town in that area.

Ah, perceptions.  For anyone who has lived in or grew up in the Rocky Mountain region, 8 or 13 miles is not "isolated," a "long ways," or even that "inconvenient."  Try 50 miles or more.   East Portal can be a cold, miserable place at most anytime excepting high summer--and sometimes even then--but it's not really out in the middle of nowhere like some places.  Carry some snacks, proper clothing for conditions, and drive on the top half of the gas tank--and go for it.  Not difficult.
