Don't go if you aren't prepared. At least there are outhouses at the parking lot. Rob Date: 11/20/19 13:29 Re: Moffat Tunnel East Portal Author: wesleygreer Nederland is the closest town that has gas and food, it's 13 miles away. Rollinsville has food, gas not sure, it's 8 miles away.

For anyone who has lived in or grew up in the Rocky Mountain region, 8 or 13 miles is not "isolated," a "long ways," or even that "inconvenient." Try 50 miles or more. East Portal can be a cold, miserable place at most anytime excepting high summer--and sometimes even then--but it's not really out in the middle of nowhere like some places. Carry some snacks, proper clothing for conditions, and drive on the top half of the gas tank--and go for it. Not difficult.
