Fresh Rebuilds Across the Sunset Route
Author: TheNavigator

Wabtec/GE in Fort Worth has been releasing C44ACM rebuilds to UP, and today no less than 5 of these "new" units showed up on the Yuma Sub in SoCal.  The paint on each of the units was about as fresh as can be, but with rain in the forecast for the next few days it was time to burn up some pixels during the low sun angles of Winter.  (Thanks also for the heads up!)

Thanks for looking,
GK

1.  A WCLI manifest with 6685 and 6230 sandwiching 8356 in between took its time departing West Colton.  This train also had a fresh C44ACM as the rear DPU, but it was faced into the train.

2.  Finally on the move, a down-on view of 6685 from -- where else -- Pepper Ave.

3.  The WCLI has picked up speed as it approaches the Beaumont Ave. grade crossing in Loma Linda.

4.  A trio of C44ACMs -- 6154, 6651, and 6214 -- is on a Fort Worth-West Colton train through Banning.

5.  6154 & Co. from the Centennial Bridge in Beaumont.

6.  6154 looking good in new paint.

I thought Union Pacific was not going to use the flag on new and rebuilt units anymore.

Nice photos.  They sure do look nice when they are fresh.  I was surprised to see the flags also.

I believe the re-paints done by UP at North Little Rock are flagless, but the units coming out of Wabtec/GE Fort Worth still have the flags.  I have no idea why the difference.

My guess is they are using up the stock of decals on hand?

So glad UP is doing this. I guess it's GE for the win. Progress Rail for the Fail. haha

I never, ever thought I'd see GE's getting re-built as such.  That really says something about the new engines being offered these days...

How so? Progress Rail is busy rebuilding units as well.

They are turning these rebuilt out pretty fast. Is the whole locomotive rebulilt? Are just new software, cab, motor tuneup and a fresh coat of paint?

6685 still retains the window on the front door. I thought the UP was plating these over.

Awesome! Clean "out of the box" power is always a Great catch! Sure wish they would quit using the Flag however:{
