Western Railroad Discussion > Biz car glint at CheyenneDate: 12/01/19 11:36 Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: santafe199 It doesn’t seem like so many years ago that I remember spotting UP excursion/business car ‘Arden’ still in active service. I was saddened to see it last week in such a disheveled condition…
1. UP 5449, “Arden” sits peeling paint at the roundhouse in Cheyenne, WY at sunset on November 24, 2019. Thanks for looking! Lance Garrels santafe199 Date: 12/01/19 12:01 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: EsPee1229 sad indeed those bubbles along the roof do't bode well
Date: 12/01/19 12:04 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: wpjones Whats even more sad is now Selma is sitting outside with Arden. Selma not only is the oldest car in the fleet 1912 and has history with also the MP and WP it has the most elegant interior and beautiful wood work in the fleet. The Guys in the car shops in the 90's referred to it as the "Ladies car".
Really sad to see it out side when I was in Cheyenne last May. Steve Date: 12/01/19 12:28 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: Copy19 I'm shocked to see the Arden stored outside in the weather. I remember it as one of the premier business cars. As for the Selma I'm speechless. It was forbidden territory for us ordinary mortals.
JB - Omaha Date: 12/01/19 12:31 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: callum_out To JB's point, why aren't both at the Bluffs under proper care?
Out Date: 12/01/19 13:02 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: wpjones If I remmember right Arden has some sort of major electical issues. Don't remember why Selma went to Cheyenne for storage. I remember Lynn saying they wanted to use Selma on some trips but orders came from OMA to remove all the tanks from it so it couldn't be used.
They have both been in Cheyenne for a long time. Arden was outside next the the Round House with a cover over it and Selma was always in the Round House. Was shocked to see Selma out side last May. Also the 963B is outside. Was kinda surprised to see Patricias Experience car going to Cheyenne at the end of the tour and not back to CB Steve callum_out Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > To JB's point, why aren't both at the Bluffs under > proper care? > > Out Date: 12/01/19 13:09 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: Drknow At long last Mr. JB.... are you finally understanding what the UP has become? Huff and puff engines pushed around the country on the farewell to steam tour is just what the public sees, much more to play out and I have too damn many years left to retire... if that will even be possible.

For some, I guess it would have been better if UP steam locos were pushed onto a rusted siding or displayed in some forgotten park to be vandalized. Date: 12/01/19 13:53 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: JLKirk On the UP.com website for the historical equipment, while all of the other business cars are listed as either stabled at Council Bluffs or Houston, the Arden and Selma are both listed as "Long term storage at Cheyenne".

For awhile the current manager was actually living in that car, until hes was summarily told to "move out". Date: 12/01/19 15:38 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: Bob3985 Copy19 Wrote:

The Selma was an exquisite Mahoganey lined business car used often by Chairman Richard Davidson. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 12/02/19 05:54 Re: Biz car glint at Cheyenne Author: Drknow ATSF3751 I would say The business cars in question ARE rusting away on some rusty yard track, needlessly so, so is a certain B unit and other equipment. Obviously there is a desired affect that is being looked for.
