Old time press photo of the 4014?
Author: santafe199

The good news is I’m through weeding & editing the 1500 some-odd photos concerning my Big Boy chase. The final 196 images can just wait! The bad news is I have enough digital material to post at least 3 parts in a series. I’ll run another snowy shot from Hays for tomorrow’s Toto. Then I’ll devote some time to get WAG Wednesday back on track. But the next few days following will be all Big Boy. (So you still have time to run for cover… ;^)

1. UP 4014 is about to be awakened for its next leg to Sharon Springs. I had taken several tripod time exposures, 3 of which I kept. But on a random impulse I took this solitary flash shot. Wow, I didn’t know I was being snowed on! But these few king-size snow bombs were a precursor for the entire day. And I simply could not resist converting this image into straight black & white. It gave the image a sort old-time press photo mood. I feel like should have been wearing a fedora with a ‘PRESS’ card stuck in the band…
Photo info: It’s 6:25 AM on November 22, 2019 in Hays, KS.

Thanks for the weather report!

You bet! I got that most classic of railfan breakfasts: 2 donuts & a cuppa coffee. But the coffee cup actually had a snap-on lid. So I was real sophisticated...
