Willard NM ..watch the trains, and the skies..!
Author: bakersfielddave

Spent a day in Roswell NM a few weeks ago,did not see any railroad action in daylight, but heard a couple after dark come through town, drove north west to Corona and Willard  next day

some BNSF action in the last hour before sunset at Willard on the main line ,with an entity trying to get into the act ..!

The line through Roswell from Clovis to Loving, NM is now heavily used with concrete and frac sand going south to the oil drilling operations in the Permian Basin near Carlsbad. Potash is a big commodity outbound. Grain and oil are two additional commodities. There is a grain operation just south of Roswell and oil at the refinery in Artesia. I don't know whether most traffic is inbound, outbound or both for those two products. I believe most track speed is 45 mph. BNSF had leased it to Southwestern RR but took it back for its own operations a couple of years ago. Any other info, updates or corrections appreciated.

It's the Transcon - it's always like this!
Did you enjoy the drive on NM-247 to Corona? Long and lonely and maybe haunted by ailens!

Corona  NM

no rail action here in the hour i had lunch  would have been good to see some UP action

looked like a ghost town at first glance   anyway but the locals  ...mostly ranchers  , ,were very friendly

I guess the old eyeballs aren't what they used to be. I think I saw something about 2/3rds of the way through the first train, but could not determine what it was. Would you be so kind as to reveal what it was in the sky that you saw? Thank you.

Saucer perched on "Thanks..." sign, probably recharging flux capacitor.
