End is Near for the Last 2 Miles of the Kalispell Branch
Author: spider1319

The last two plus miles of the exGN,BN and BNSF and now Watco's Mission Mountain are about to take place before the end of the year. I got word from Monaddave that the end is near for the downtown Kalispell trackage which passes the former GN depot. The last two customers are moving or have moved to the new Glacier Industrial Park northeast of US 2.The downtown trackage will be turned into a trail. Here are two images of the BNSF Kalispell Transfer just prior the line being leased to Watco. The images are west of the US 2 overhead in the rock cut east of downtown.Bill Webb

Nice shots.  Neat to see a train of this consist and a caboose on the end.

For those who don't know, this is in Montana south of Whitefish.  The main line junction is at Columbia Falls.

The original GN mainline until the move to Whitefish in 1904.

It's good to see that there are both sufficient business and cooperative shippers left there to sustain the branch.
