Indiana Harbor Belt's New Paint Scheme
Author: Ohiorailfan

Here a few shots of a couple IHB SW1500's at Blue Island and East Chicago sporting the "new" paint scheme. The scheme is a throwback scheme and were repainted at MEI in East St. Louis. So far 4 are in service on the IHB with more to come.

Thanks for the photos.  That new scheme is really sharp; definitely like it.

They seem to be rather busy! Those locomotives are getting a workout!

Here's some background on these units.  The paint scheme is almost exactly identical to IHB's very first scheme going back to 1948.  The colot is Brunswick Green, not black though it certainly looks like it in most lighting contexts.  As noted earlier, four are now in operation and two more will--or have been--sent to St.Louis.  It looks like all but four of the SW1500s will eventuallly receive the new paint, as well as a rebuild and Flexicoil trucks.  The other four have been converted to dual fuel units (diesel + compressed natural gas) and look quite different.  They have also been reclassified from SW1500 to RP15BDF.

For a look at the original paint scheme, go here and scroll down to the second photo:

Here's a shot of one of the dual fuel units:

Looking forward to seeing photos of the SW's in the new paint running in back to back pairs.
Thanks for the excellent photos.  Always great to see the IHB on TO.
