Every time I read a Railway Age article I throw up a little in my mouth, especially when our own union disseminates their propaganda with no context whatsoever.

I hope we can get photo-time during roll-bys in the contract.

It's just shocking to me that a federal judge appointed by Trump would side with the corporations. Who would have seen this coming?!?

The Railway Labor Act defines how contracts are negotiated. Major disputes are negotiated as part of the general contract. Suddenly one part of the existing general contract can be negotiated separately.

When the negotiations reach an impasse mediation will be forced upon the parties. When the parties do not reach resolution a Presidential Emergency Board will impose one party's position upon the other. The PEB does not negotiate between the parties.

Given the current president it is not likely there will be 2 person crews remaining. The union's only option is to "sell" one of the operating positions with buyouts and higher wages and benefits for remaining employees. This is not a pretty situation for the unions. It has happened before with firemen and brakemen.

it will be more like every conductor is made a engineer and furloughed just like what happened to the firemen, since the utu controls the engineer training agreement.

Its shocking that the UTU/SMART stepped into it when their general chairman BNSF Pacific Northwest open the single person crew  can of worms along with the lawsuit all on his own few years ago. By submitting a one man crew agreement to the BNSF, when the carrier wasn't even looking for it. The UTU is now blaming trump but I think more like they are covering their a$$. Lets not forget where PTC came from and how it got shoved down the carriers throats, We would not even being having a one man crew discussion if wasn't for PTC.

It was that turncoat Randall Knutson, the GC of SMART TD GO-001, which encompasses BNSF locals in 18 States from Washington to Mississippi. He made a back-room deal with BNSF then sprung it on the membership. Rotten POS. Even the SMART international had to deny any knowledge of it and distance themselves from that SOB. After it was voted down, BNSF gave Knutson a golden parachute and he retired. And people wonder why we are often suspicious of some of our union's "leadership".
