New BNSF Tier-4 mini-chase from a week ago
Author: oyw

Last Saturday (February 15) I was finally able to catch one of BNSF’s recently delivered ET44C4 GE’s leading a westbound Kaiser Hauler. After intercepting it in the Pass, I gave chase and followed it to its final destination in Fontana. Here are a few shots of train plus a couple of more trains as well.

1) First up is an obligatory head-on shot of the train descending the Pass at the old Cajon Campground near Blue Cut.

2) From Rialto Ave in San Bernardino, the 3721 begins its short 10 mile trip to Kaiser out the old Santa Fe 2nd District, now part of Metrolink’s San Gabriel Sub.

3) After arriving Kaiser, the train had to pull forward and double-over into the yard, allowing this shot from the Cherry Ave overpass. Note last unit GP60M-3 147 returning from servicing in Barstow.

4) A down on roster shot of the 3721.

5) This switch job with three GP60M-3’s had pulled west while the 3721 doubled-over, gets back to work.

6) BNSF 120 roster shot.

During my visit, a couple of Metrolink trains met at the Fontana Speedway platform.

7) Taken from the other side of the bridge, the westbound Metrolink passes an assortment of BNSF geeps.

8) Grab shot of the two trains and a funny car during practice.

9) And lastly, the eastbound Metrolink behind F125 918.

I was hoping to someday get a road train from the bridge without cars blocking the view, so I guess I can scratch it off my list now. Thanks very much for looking.

Nice imamges. Good to see Santa Fe painted GP60 locomotives and the rebuilt GP60M-3 units. Are all ex Santa Fe GP60M units rebuilt and repaint now?

At least one, #130 is still in an older orange paint scheme. Not sure if it's upgraded?

Nice series!  I really like those ET44C4s and that huge radiator.
