Gittin' After It

Last Friday was the day for our regularly scheduled trip to Omaha for the Camerail Meeting.  A couple of the usual suspects were unavailable but Pete Hedgpeth and I had a good trip anyway.

The trip from Lincoln to Ashland was uneventful so we headed south to Louisville in hopes of seeing the BNSF local there.  Track work in Louisville kinda upset that cart so we headed back toward Ashland via hwy 66 thinking we would follow the Sioux City line up to Fremont.  We could see some UP action there along with the BNSF.

We checked out the siding at South Bend and there sat the local I'd hoped to see.  The local and a coal load were being held waiting for the track work at Louisville to clear up.  We didn't know how long these trains had already been held or how much longer it would be but thought we would stick around 15 - 20 minutes to see what happened.  Maybe 10 or so minutes later the local powered by 2625 and 2585 got a green signal and were really "gittin' after it" in the first two pics.  For me, the first 3 shots were the highlight of the trip!

After we got those shots, we headed on to Ashland and a pit stop at one of the "almost everywhere" Casey's General Stores for snacks and tasty beverages.  The trip to Fremont was also uneventful.

When we got to Fremont, we caught UP 6533 as the only power on a westbound mixed freight.  The train was fairly long, maybe 80 or so cars, for having just one engine but that's the way they're doing things these days.

Back at Fremont, UP 519 was shoving a cut of cars into the BNSF yard.  Looks like they had a little trouble keeping the lettering straight on 519.  After struggling with keeping decals straight on HO scale models, I can only imagine what their painter goes through!

The first view here is of 519 returning to home rails as it is passing BNSF 2697 and 2582.

Before we headed on toward Omaha, we caught BNSF 9712 and 7210 northbound with an empty rock train.  We could be seeing more of these in the near future since flooding is starting already.

Another good trip and enjoyable meeting!
