"Investigators arrested a California train engineer Tuesday after he allegedly derailed a train in a bid to crash into the USNS Mercy, the hospital ship treating non-COVID-19 patients at the Port of Los Angeles to lessen the burden on area hospitals, prosecutors said."

"Moreno allegedly told officers and FBI investigators that he deliberately derailed the train because he was suspicious of the Mercy's intentions and thought it was actually part of a government takeover, the complaint said."

Meanwhile in France, trains are being put to better use during the pandemic,

Those were the recorded words from the engineer— as crazy it is. Headline called it exactly as he stated from the prosecutor’s report.
Seriously, this virus is causing some folks to break w/ reality and go off the deep end— this engr (literally) wanted to— right into the ship and Long Beach Harbor!
The world will not stop spinning, and we’ll get through this.
Certainly, just the start of the wacko reactions... Predictable, but preventable.

I was referring to the SUBJECT line of the other post, which was "PHL had a derailment at Harbor Blvd."

Hope you're doing ok during this craziness. Hopefully we'll be back to work soon.

From the KTLA story, but many outlets have basically the same thing:

“Moreno tried to flee the scene but was detained by a California Highway Patrol officer who witnessed the incident, officials said. The officer reported seeing the train smash through a concrete barrier, steel barrier and chain-link fence before sliding across a parking lot and lot filled with gravel, coming to rest against another chain-link fence.”

The report from the CHP officer just has this element of surrealism... “oh look there the train... wait... there aren’t train tracks there... ?!?!?!?”

Seems like a scene out of a movie...

Another sad reminder that wackos exist even in the ranks of professional railroaders. Sad but true. Let's hope he gets a few years in a cookoo house and the help he obviously needs.

Or he may have amply medicated celebrating "freedome of choice in medication" with substances from the local multi-level street-corner pharmacy consultant who offers an interesting array of mind bending medications. . . . . . .

Nope - there a famous band named after a car & heavy truck manufacure that was started by Ransom Eli Olds after leaving his original company in 1905.  His original company's Curved Dash sold 3000 unit is 1903, and is the car that is credited as being the first mass-produced, low-priced American motor vehicle, =not Henry Ford's Model T.

And what's a 'speedwagon' anyway?

J/K, REO made good stuff.

The original Speedwagon was a truck, made by REO.  The great name was subsequently used by a band, and by a character in the graphic novel universe.
