Had some problems at the unload in Colorado Springs yesterday (wouldn't stay running) so UP removed it to send to where ever they send em to now a days. But the UP assigned one of the new SD70ACeT4's to the train. UP 3017. Got a heads up that it might be leading toady's Rock Train so we got up nice and early to catch it a at a few spots in town and around.
We got to the quarry at Parkdale about 0545 or so hoping to catch it as it left the quarry site. Well, 3017 was not the leader but was in the consist as 2nd unit, which if the pattern holds, it should lead tomorrows train. So we will once again get up and go try and catch it at a few spots. But here are 2 from today. As the Rock Train departs the siding at Parkdale we find UP 6727 leading UP 3017 and 48 cars of rock eastbound along the Arkansas River and about to head in to the West End of the Royal Gorge. Next shot has the UP 6727 making its way east thru Canon City and is seen here crossing Four Mile Creek in the background and about to cross over Highland Ave on Canon's east side. This is pretty much MP 157 here on the Main. Last shot is the 2nd train today to ply the rails thru Canon City. BNSF 4117 leads BNSF 9225 and 52 Empty Ballast Cars for loading at the Martin Marietta Quarry at Parkdale. This is the west end of the Royal Gorge where the tracks go under US50. Nice way to spend a morning. Weather was great. So were the trains.
