Signal Bridge Staging at Soda Springs, CA
Author: broken_link

When I rolled past the Soda Springs grade crossing this afternoon, I noticed that there were new signal bridge sections with signal masts and heads staged along the right-of-way. While I'm not certain where they're planning on installing it, if I were to guess I'd say the classic signal bridge and searchlights at West Norden aren't long for this world.

Signal upgrades around Norden are in the budget for this year. Not sure what all it includes, but changes are in the works.

No, the signal installation I’ve reported on is at Gold Run- this is at Soda Springs.
The loss of the old SP signal bridge at the West end of the Norden shed is indeed a sad one.

The Norden signal bridge has worn out, you mean?

Not worn out really, more a matter of being modernized and reconfigured.
Since the UPRR took over The Hill they've slowly made changes over the years.  Many signals have been relocated in the process- there was a WB searchlight near my house I enjoyed seeing.  Gone missing several years ago.
