Report of 50-60 cars derailed.  Tankers of alcohol and LPG on fire.  Both mains blocked.

Also there may be high winds in the area.

Exit 111 is about 4 or 5 miles east of Rock Springs at what is known locally as the Airport Road. This area is called Baxter Basin and is a bleak, treeless shale plain. Highway access for first responders should be good as there is a paved access road near to the tracks.

The second major derailment on this line in less than three weeks. Major derailment about 30 miles west of Laramie about three weeks ago. One has to wonder what the true cause is?

Did any of the tanks launch and get airborne or just burn, explode and stay on the ground?

I am finding a bleve does not need to have one of the tanks rupture and launch like a rocket. BN showed us a movie like that back in engineer's training school. Here's a wiki link to bleves. A did not know water could boil at room temperature.

Yes, the Rock Springs derailment resulted in multiple bleves.

Just because it explodes doesn’t mean bleve. Many multiple causes.

Just my opinion...... I sense that a number of factors are in play; super long (too long) trains in PSR service, reduced staff in an effort to get to lower operating ratios. Reduced car inspector/car shop staff missing items, reduced track crew teams and longer times between heavy track work. At some point, all of these cuts in the name of PSR and better operating ratios catches up with you. Just my view from my arm chair.....

I know the cause, and unfortunately for the rails, it’s not that.

The one by Laramie wasn’t that either.

I can’t say what it was, but should be announced when the press stuff goes out.

It was a case of bad luck today.

It was a monster manifest train that was 10k+ long. Sure looks like a stringline on a set of reverse curves east of Rock Springs, WY!

No. It was actually a normal sized one for a change.

I had heard thru a friend that a crew left North Platte with a train of 325 cars.

Because he is smart enough to own & operate, successfully, his own business, without interference from "Wall Street"!

If there was ethanol or alcohol involved once a general service tank car ( low pressure ) is involved in a pool fire the cars metal gets heated and begins to thin and the pressure in the car builds and the pressure relief device cannot vent the pressure and as the metal thins it tears., and the car opens and fall able vapor and product escapes. The video looks like a heat induced tear and not a BLEVE.  Think of a tank car as a hot dog on the grill and as  it cook and heats the skin splits and rips open.
