You will see Illinois service Amtrak trains along with the California Zephyr and Southwest Chief, Road freights to Chicago on the Mendota Sub or north to LaCrosse, WI on the Barstow sub which veers off just east of the cam. You will also see yard jobs that pull out then reverse back into the yard. The Fort Madison, IA cam is on the ex ATSF line and is today part of the BNSF Transcon. It is a very busy double track line hosting lots of freight and the Southwest Chief. The cam at La Plata, MO is on the same line. BNSF owns the swing bridge across the river with the auto traffic on the top deck and the double track RR on the bottom. River traffic has the priority so it opens to let them through. The other track closest to the camera is the ex CB&Q/BN Hannibal Sub (K-Line) from St Louis to Burlington, IA. It hosts mostly coal traffic Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 06/30/20 12:57 by Spoony81. After this introductory period, there are some rotating live cams on YouTube, as well as edited videos compiled by Virtual Railfan.

There is a small city park about a 1/2 mile north of the station that sits a the interesection (flyover) of the ex ATSF line, the ex CB & Q Barstow sub, and the ex CB &Q Mendota sub. All are now BNSF.

It is one of my favorites especially for it's rotating action and picking up subtle things like the trains in the distance through the tree in the park. Better keep that baby trimmed!

That should be a great winter cam with the barge traffic down and the leaves off of those trees Date: 07/01/20 18:45 Re: Two new Virtual Railfan camers Author: mully I agree thanks to them for hosting.
